Entry record from Fricke (2013): Hewa

biti

Variants: a'u piti; 'ita piti; rimu pitiThe inflection paradigm b/w is probably borrowed from other Sika varieties that also have a glottalised 'w' in the first person. The alternative to use 'p' instead of 'w' in Hewa probably arose to assimilate the paradigm to the common p/b paradigm in Hewa.

•  V. get.dapat.

Usage: The alternative forms with p are considered to be children language and incorrect. It might be overgeneralisation (as the more frequent paradigm in Hewa is p/b) in the process of langauge acquisition.

Etymology: PMP *bintiŋ
