Etymology: Forms |fn{pandu} and |fn{pandut} are widely found west of Alor for a range of oil-yielding plants used in making torches and/or lamps, including |sc{Jatropha eurcaa}, |sc{Calophyllum inophyllum}, |sc{Ricinus communis}. Perhaps ultimately from Malay, Javanese |fn{panjut} 'torch'. Final nasal of Wersing form unexplained.
